Statement of Community Involvement

Your say on planning in West Oxfordshire

Please note: since the Statement of Community Involvement was adopted there have been changes to the planning system and further changes are likely to be introduced by the new government.  Changes include:

  • Changes to the regulations for producing the Core Strategy and other Development Plan Documents removing the need for a formal preferred options consultation stage and a formal consultation stage following submission of the document to the Secretary of State. Instead formal consultation on a final draft plan document is to take place before submission to the Secretary of State for examination.  Consultation during the Issues and Options stage remains (see p 8-9 of the adopted SCI).
  • The Council now has a dedicated online planning consultation website, where you can register to receive updates and notification of consultation events, view previous consultation documents and responses http://planningconsultation.westoxon.gov.uk
  • The Council is currently trialling a scheme of public speaking at Council Planning Committees
  • The Government has stated an intention to abolish the Regional Spatial Strategy - the South East Plan

The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) was adopted by the Council on 10th January 2007.   This document forms part of the Local Development Framework and sets out how and when people can get involved in development plan preparation and in planning applications.

For development plans and planning applications the SCI sets out:

  • Who can be involved
  • When you can be involved
  • How you can be involved or make comments
  • What feedback we will give
  • What happens to your views in the decision making process

The adopted Statement of Community Involvement, the adoption statement and documents produced in its preparation are available in the File downloads section.
