Planning Duty Officer

To enable us to answer your general planning queries, we operate a planning enquiry service every week day between 11am and 1pm Monday to Friday.

During this period, the duty planning officer will answer all general, technical planning enquiries by telephone, or see casual callers where the presence of a planning officer is required such as policy and procedural advice, guidance interpreting current applications and car parking standards.

The duty officer cannot offer advice on:

  • Detailed site specific proposals -                                      a Pre-Application form should be submitted
  • Specific Local Plan enquiries -                                        Please email Planning Policy for advice
  • Permitted Development enquiries -                                   Please see our Do I need Permission? page
  • Form checking  -                                                            Please see our Planning Application forms and advice page
  • Pre-purchase advice                                                   Unfortunately, we are not able to give specific advice if you are thinking of buying a property on the condition that you can extend/change it in some way.

The Duty Officer is unable to answer questions about specific applications about which you should contact the Planning Officer dealing with the application, direct. If you would like to know about the progression of your planning application please contact the planning case officer or consult our website where key details regarding timescales, consultations and decisions can be found.

The Duty Officer system is intended to provide a better service to our customers.  Working on a rota basis the Duty Officer enables other planning officers to concentrate on dealing with your applications, appeals, correspondence and other related matters and it is therefore a more effective and efficient use of their time.
