Coronavirus updates - Driver and Vehicle Licences
The most up to date source of information for keeping you and your passengers safe during Covid-19 is on Gov.uk.
Defer renewal application
Due to the current lockdown, we are giving you the option to defer your renewal.
If your licence expires before 30 September 2021, you can defer your renewal up to 31 December 2021.
This means you won’t need to apply for a new licence if it was due to expire before then. You might also avoid paying for insurance in this time.
We will only renew your licence if all requirements are met (for example: a DBS check with online update registration, medical, etc.) when you submit your application.
Please note: if you defer your licence, you must tell us before your current one expires, otherwise you or the vehicle will not be licensed until we have processed your application. See licensing pages for full criteria.
We have relaxed the vehicle age requirement for deferred applications. The vehicle must be less than 15 years old on the original renewal date.
For example, if your renewal is due on 10 April 2021 and your vehicle will be less than 15 years old on that date, we will allow you to renew on 10 December 2021 for another year, rather than having to apply for a new licence.
To benefit from this, you must notify us that you wish to defer at firstname.lastname@example.org
You may not receive the same plate number on renewal.
Partition or screen
Whether a partition or screen should be installed during the Coronavirus pandemic is a matter for vehicle owners, drivers
or operators to consider.
Read our policy on screens and if you want to install one please fill out the request form and return to us.
