Review of licences

An application to review a premises licence or a club premises certificate can be made at any time. The application can be made by either an interested party (resident or business owner) or responsible authority.

Applying to review a licence allows residents, businesses and responsible authorities to raise concerns about a premises which must relate to one of the four following licensing objectives:

  • public safety
  • prevention of public nuisance
  • protection of children from harm

How to apply

Before applying, read the guidance notes for details of how to apply, the eligibility criteria, fees and the documentation you will need to provide. Please:

A copy of the application must also be sent to the premises licence holder and the responsible authorities listed in the guidance. They must receive this the same day the application is submitted to us.

What happens next

We can reject any request for a review if we consider it to be frivolous, vexatious or repetitive.

If we accept an application to review we must advertise the application and invite further representations about that premises from other interested parties and the responsible authorities. They have 28 days in which to make additional representations.

We will then hold a hearing within 20 working days after the end of the 28 day representation period.
