Free parking - not just for Christmas
Other local authorities may be offering it for a few days during the busy festive shopping period, but in West Oxfordshire parking is free all year round.
And, during the run up to Christmas, drivers will be making even more use of free parking at the District Council-owned car parks.
Cllr Steve Good, Cabinet Member for Environment at the Council said: “High parking charges can put people off visiting town centres, which is why West Oxfordshire District Council believes so strongly in free parking – it is our way of supporting retailers and businesses that play such an important role in our economy.
“I want to remind shoppers that parking is free all year round in West Oxfordshire and not just for Christmas.”
When motorists arrive in Witney the Council also offers a free Shopmobility service to help those with mobility problems access the shops and facilities the town has to offer.
There are over 2,500 parking spaces in Council-owned car parks across West Oxfordshire, as well 650 on-street parking spaces and 108 disabled spaces.
Time restrictions apply in the car parks to help with traffic flow and community wardens monitor these.
