Article 4 directions
Some forms of development are allowed without first having to apply for planning permission. This is called ‘permitted development’ and can be carried out for certain types of new building and for changes of use from one type of land use to another.

An Article 4 Direction only means that a particular development cannot be carried out without a planning application. This means the Council can consider a proposal in more detail. It does not mean that permission will be refused.
Current Article 4 Directions
We confirmed an Article 4 Direction for Business sites in West Oxfordshire in September 2016, to restrict the change of use from offices to houses without first applying for planning permission.
