Annual canvass
Important changes are coming for the May 2023 local elections
All residents voting in person at the May 2023 elections will be required to show an acceptable form of ID to be able to vote. This does not affect postal voting. Find out more here.
Keeping the register up to date
We are required to keep the register of eligible voters up to date. From July each year, we contact every household to find out if the details on the electoral register are correct. This is called the annual canvass.
Your household may be contacted by:
- post
- phone
- knocking on your door
If you need to update your details on the electoral register, it’s important that you respond as soon as you can.
The letter and form you receive will tell you if you need to respond and how to do so.
If you need to reply and we don’t receive a response from you, we may need to visit your property to check the details. Please help us to save money by responding as soon as possible.
More information about the annual canvass and voting can be found at www.electoralcommission.org.uk/i-am-a/voter.
You can find out if you are eligible to vote and how to do it on our Register to Vote page.
Please remember that whenever someone who is eligible to vote changes address they need to make a fresh application to be registered. Please see the link on the Register to Vote page.
