The Leader of the Council
Councillor Michele Mead is the leader of the Council. Her role is to have overall responsibility for the vision and corporate objectives of the council. She is the principal spokesperson for us and represents our views to the public and other organisations we work with.Her term as Leader runs until May 2023.
Biography
Michele has lived in West Oxfordshire all her life and in Carterton for 18 years. She attended Henry Box School in Witney.
She entered politics because she felt she could give more for the community and was elected to Carterton Town Council in 2014. She served as Mayor of Carterton between May 2019 and October 2020.
Michele became a district councillor in 2018 and served as Cabinet Member for Leisure and Health during which time she oversaw the completion of Phase Two of the Carterton Leisure Centre, amongst other projects.
She enjoys cooking, country walks and spending time with family and friends.
Priorities for the Leader
Michele wants to make sure West Oxfordshire is a beautiful place in which to live, work and visit. She is passionate about:
- the health and wellbeing of all residents
- proactively tackling the effects of climate change
- delivering genuinely affordable housing
As Leader, Councillor Mead will continue:
- good communication between the council and residents
- to deliver the Council Plan and Local Plan
Financial allowances
Councillor Mead gets a £4,920 basic allowance and a £22,194 Leader’s special responsibility allowance. Find out more about councillor allowances and their code of conduct
